Fairy Meadows- Pakistan

 This is a grassland near one of the base camp sites of the Nanga Parbat, located in Diamer DistrictGilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.

When can I visit?

The six-month tourist season at Fairy Meadows starts in April and continues until the end of September.

What is found there?

north-facing slopes mostly consist of coniferous forest : Pinus wallichianaPicea smithiana and Abies pindrow trees,

Little sunlight:birch and willow dwarf shrubs.

Southern slopes ; juniper and scrubs, namely Juniperus excelsa and J. turkesticana.

low altitudes:  Artemisia, with yellow ashstone oaks and Pinus gerardiana spread among it.

mammals, a few brown bears are found in the region, with their numbers declining.Some musk deer, regarded as an endangered species, are also present.

What does the name mean?

Known as “Joot” among locals, the place was given the name Märchenwiese (literally “Fairy Tale Meadows”) by German mountaineers 

What are some precautions?

There is only one road to Fairy Meadows, and it isn’t your average tricky mountain road; in 2013, the World Health Organization ranked it as the second deadliest road on the planet.Visitors to Fairy Meadows can find accommodation in small on-site cabins or designated camp sites

Is it a national site?

Yes, Pakistani government declared the location a National Park in 1995

Why is it special?

It is the location of the ninth largest mountain, NangaPargat, or the Killer Mountain.
